I have spent more than thirty years inside the organizations my clients lead.

Why I do this work

Before starting my own practice, I held talent management and executive coaching roles at Shopify, BMO Financial Group, Deloitte, the Toronto Star, LHH and Farber. Working from the inside, I saw the same thing again and again: capable, accomplished leaders who were not held back by a lack of skill, but by the toll that sustained pressure takes on how they think, decide and connect with others.

Time and again, I watched talented leaders receive coaching and training that focused on changing their behaviour, while the pressure driving that behaviour went unaddressed. As a result, the change rarely lasted. I wanted to offer something that reached the source, so I developed the Expanded State Method and dedicated my practice to helping leaders move from pressure to power.

Today my work brings together a background in psychology, business and decades of assessment and coaching experience. The leaders I work with tend to be analytical and sceptical of anything soft or vague, and I respect that. This work is deep, and it is also practical, rigorous and grounded in the realities of running an organization.
